Information for the Birth Father
As a birth father, you may feel left out of this
process, and have very specific questions of your own.
Perhaps these frequently asked questions will help.
I am not the father of this baby.
I want to help the mother out, but I don't want her to
tell the baby I'm the father. Can you help?
I want to be involved in this
process, and the mother says it is not my business. How
can I be sure that good people are raising my child?
The mother says she gets pictures
of the baby as she or he is growing up. What about me?

Unfortunately, there are some thing's that we can not
have control over, like what other people say about us.
What you will be asked to sign is a document that says you
consent to the adoption. That will allow the mother to
proceed with her plan. She may be too embarrassed to admit
that there is more than one possible father. The fact that
you sign this document does not acknowledge that you ARE
the father, just that you COULD BE the father because you
had sexual intercourse with the mother.
We work very hard with the mothers to determine who the
"real" father is. The child has a right to know
about his/her medical history and about his/her parents.
However, we can not prevent a mother from telling the
child you are the father, that is her choice.

I want to be involved in this process, and the mother
says it is not my business. How can I be sure that good
people are raising my child?
Just as explained above, both parents are allowed to
pick the family that they feel will be the best parents
for their child. If you are in a conflict with the mother,
and she does not want you involved, we can help negotiate
between the two of you to insure the family selected meets
your needs. ALL of the families have completed the home
study process and are approved based on state standards.

You are entitled to the same. Arrangements can be made
directly with the adoptive parents, with our agency as a
go between.
